What will I see on my visit?
Covering an area of 400 sq.m., the permanent exhibition hall presents the history of popular imagery from the 17th century onwards, its engravers, image-making centres, etc., and then proceeds to explain the functions of images: to edify, to entertain, to educate, to sell products… From religious images to morality tales for children, including propaganda images, paper theatres, paper soldiers, satirical images and advertising… you will see all the varied themes that appeared in popular imagery.

Is the visit always the same?
For preservation purposes, the images in the permanent exhibition hall are replaced every six months in order to avoid prolonged exposure to light.
So you can come back again and again and find a Museum that's different every time!
Several temporary exhibitions are also organised every year. They are based on varied and original themes and provide further insight into imagery-related topics. Modern art is always represented. Alongside images from the past, each exhibition allows you to discover the work of contemporary artists as well.
Are the images easy to understand?
Not always, but a number of explanatory texts, interactive terminals, video montages, etc. provide commentaries on the images exhibited. And if you prefer, a five-language audio-guide is available for the permanent exhibition hall (hire charge €1).
Museum staff are also on hand to give you more information and guide you on your visit.
